Couldn't quite believe this when I first saw it:
http://www.tate.org.uk/space/default.htm
I appreciate their concept and reasoning for it, but it seems to be a bit full of Cold War grandeur. Or perhaps it was thought up at a dinner party?
What do you think? |

i guess actually having a tate or other art gallery in space would be a good thing because then only the rich and truly deserving would be allowed to gaze upon the work. i mean, there's the internet for everyone else isn't there?

The Tate has declared that "In order to fulfill their mission to extend access to British and International modern and contemporary art, the Tate Trustees have been considering for some time how they could find new dimensions to Tate's work."
In order to do this they have decided, essentially, to open a new Tate gallery in space. Their justification is that it allows artists a new environment in which to display their work and to put that work in a new context (see the example concerning “The Great Bear” that they give).
The questionable element is all the money it takes to open an art gallery in space and the access that will be available to it. |

Don't dis the Mullets bro. I have to fight my hair dresser not to touch mine....
It is a question of Man Hood.
Tate in space, I think they maybe be refering to an Online exhibition? With a space theme? Artist subjective and all? ie the idea is the important bit, not the medium or visual stimulation.
Shit, I have a visual arts degree and think most artist are so caught up in their own cyclic subjectives that they would know if they produced crap anyway, big points if it contains ideas about feminism.
Maybe they could float a giant inflatable chick in space (one that spreaDS girl/girl porn free around the world) |
