what is ammo city?
ammo city is an online alternative news and entertainment network with a community of around 100,000 regular readers and participants. from time to time ammo city organises or participates in live events, parties, art exhibits, independent film shows and conferences.

ammo city also contributes editorial to leading international magazines and newspapers and provides programming for television and radio broadcast.

why ammo city?
we use the term ‘ammo’ to mean social ammunition or at least an alternative viewpoint to mainstream media.

how do i navigate?
ammo city comprises 4 main areas, magazine, radio, forum and shop.

use the jump menu (the one with ‘select destination’ on it) to choose where you want to go.
after that just click on stuff (usually blue or orange) and explore. if you get lost you can always use the jump menu to take you back or somewhere else. clicking on the ammo city logo will take you back to the central terminus or hub.

what browser and plug-in's do i need?
the new ammocity will run on pretty much everything but we recommend the following:

for windows pc: internet explorer 5.5 or later, flash 5 or later

for macintosh: safari 1.0 or later, flash 5 or later

to listen to the radio you will need an mp3 utility such as winamp (windows) or itunes (mac) you might also try windows media player or realplayer

to watch video clips you'll need windows media player, quicktime or realplayer. as there's no standardisation yet you may as well install all 3.

what goes on in each area?
the magazine is where selected articles are researched, written, edited and then published. on occasion the magazine will follow a theme but often it is mixture of weighty political comment, jaded opinion pieces, reviews, interviews and nonsense, all with a backdrop of some top tunes.

one of our readers complained that ‘you’re not the onion, you’re not vice!’ well we’re glad that’s all cleared up then.

the radio is where each month we load up mixes and radio shows in streaming mp3 format so you can listen at your pleasure.

the forum is where we encourage you to have your say and add your comments, thoughts, random interventions, pictures, links to share amongst the community and for internet posterity. please don’t be shy, it's a free service so the least you can do is add a little something.

the shop is a hopeless attempt at making a few bucks by hoping that some of you will buy a t shirt with our logo on it. the ladies briefs are very bashment and we know of at least one person that got laid within an hour of wearing one of our shirts.

why did ammo city go ‘off-air’ for a while?
we ran out of money. ammo city originally came to life during the dot com boom where, with the financial backing of investors, we amassed a large respected editorial team and contributors. when the illusory dot com business models collapsed so did investor support.

at a time when online advertising budgets disappeared ammo city was unable to support itself and the large team it had established. when it’s holding company was forced to close ammo city was hibernated.
an original founder acquired ammo city during 2002 and restarted online activity in january 2003 with a functional new site on may 1st.

finding the original publishing system was too unwieldy for a smaller and less well funded operation the new ammo city site was reconstructed from the ground up utilising standard but customised web publishing technologies. whilst this has meant a temporary departure from an immersive user experience it has meant that we have been able to reach many more citizens as a consequence.

the design of the site will allow us to create new user experiences and environments as resources in future allow.

how does ammo city make money?
good question and one that we’re constantly trying to figure out! our intention is to make ammo city free to access and therefore we rely on advertising and sponsorship.

we accept advertising in our magazine, radio and forum sections as well as in our fortnightly email newsletter.

an advertisement on ammo city can reach around 100,000 readers, substantially higher than many print magazines for substantially less money. more information for advertisers is here

we also have some t-shirt’s, ladies briefs and other merchandise featuring the ammo city logo for sale.
we syndicate and create original editorial for several magazines and newspapers.

we are currently working on television, radio and publishing projects.

what is transmission...?
transmission... is our fortnightly email newsletter that provides a brief summary of what’s happening in ammo city, events, reviews, breaking news, and typically a relevant promotion. most times we have guest list passes to top events and regularly have giveaway’s of nifty gear including cd’s, rare vinyl, shirts.

we don’t sell, lease or rent our mailing list to anyone.
