an acquaintance of mine, let’s just call him ‘clever trevor’ was a wheeler dealer with what used to be called a ‘venture capitalist’ operation a couple of years ago. he got the push and now all i hear from him are sickening emails telling us what a great time he’s having in south america boffing beautiful latino babes and practicing his spanish. bastard. whilst the daily mail and the sun newspapers bleat on about asylum seekers and other people seeking to live in the uk, they neglect to mention that more people are leaving than entering. there’s a steady exodus of people, a brain drain of british graduate’s and other professionals in their 20’s and 30’s that have seen greener pastures overseas. dumping cool brittania in exchange for a new life, down shifting around the med, australia, new zealand, the caribbean and africa to name just a few places i now get emails from. a recent survey in the daily telegraph showed that over 50% of us would like to settle in another country. the going rate for a caribbean work permit is about £2,000 i hear. the old fear-based reasons for not leaving blighty and it’s excellent health care, living standards, government, policing, crime, work, etc just don’t stand up anymore. even in the guardian reading parts of south london it takes up to 10 days to see a g.p. the police, hamstrung between positive discrimination and call centre bureaucracy hire new recruits like mcdonalds but forget to actually nick the bad people. those of us considering a move to more exotic locations will hear the old chestnut about local ‘government corruption’ and ‘media suppression’. well take a look around you as our karaoke prime minister pitches his reason for emptying the treasury blowing up iraq on the basis of a half-inched student thesis. bush?
it’s quite possible that the student who wrote the ill-fated notes is still paying off their student loan - like the many thousands of other graduates who discover that the recently acquired letters after their name qualify them for stacking shelves in tesco’s or selling direct debit charity donations on carnaby street. all this whilst having to pay off a mortgage sized debt. that’ll teach the great unwashed for getting a university education no doubt. not that these guys are likely to see a house mortgage for a while, the average deposit needed for a shack in london is nearly 50 grand and salaries are heading south. there was a time that living with your parents after you were 21 was deeply suspect. now, if you’re not you must be selling drugs or lap dancing. then, there are those that do have a mortgage and maxed out credit cards about to expire their zero interest period. a wonderful little scam on behalf of our global economy is that the middle classes, being a patriotic bunch, dutifully feasted on borrowing and spending in response to a call for good citizenship. meanwhile, the government deregulates lending and allows the easy money dealers to do their pushing on the streets. bingo, everyone’s hooked and the economy is supported by the users but only just. in the u.s., since g.w. bush took office, 2.6 million american’s have lost their jobs. an increase in unemployment in the u.k. could be catastrophic to the middle classes as they rapidly sell off their mortgaged houses to repay debts providing a ‘correction’ in the property market that makes debts harder to pay and on. so hold on to your ass, this drug has a major thump on the come down. who could be blamed for wanting to miss that one? left or considering leaving the uk? please contribute to our readers poll here © copyright 2003 AMMO CITY INDUSTRIES LTD |
